Student discount verification explained

To get most student discounts you have to prove you're a student once, through a verification service. Here's how the main ones work.

The main services

  • UNiDAYS: a free app and website. You verify with your school or university login or documents, then get codes or links for partner brands.
  • Student Beans: similar and free; Gymshark, for example, verifies students through it.
  • SheerID: runs inside the brand's own checkout. Nike's US student discount uses it and may ask for documents.
  • ID.me: a US digital identity service used for student, military, first responder and teacher discounts.
  • ISIC: the International Student Identity Card, a paid card recognised in many countries; in the UK the paid TOTUM card is another option.

Who qualifies

It depends on the brand. Nike's US student offer covers high school, college and university students aged 16+. Dell's includes high school students 16+ and trade-school students. Many fashion brands only accept college or university students. Check the terms before you verify.

Tips

  • Use your school or university email if you have one; it's usually the quickest route.
  • Codes are often single-use and short-lived (Nike's expire two weeks after issue), so verify when you're ready to buy.
  • Your status usually needs renewing each year.
  • Only verify on the brand's own site or the service's official app, never through a link in an unexpected message.
